NY ECS Chapter
New York is the first East Coast community that Okeanos will focus on. There are dozens of great breaks throughout the New York coastline; some well recognized, some kept private, and some still waiting to be discovered.
Our objective is to give recognition to the New York Surf community, while respecting its privacy. There is nothing worse than having your favorite spot blown up by some yahoo and the next thing you know you got 50 out-of-town idiots dropping in on you.
Trust us when we say that is not what we are aimed to do. That pisses us off as much as it does you. We want to spotlight local surfers; highlight the already well known breaks; and most importantly help protect our beaches and give something back to the community.
As you already know when you surf outside of Long Island and mention where you’re from, people are always surprised to hear you can surf in New York.
We get good surf, we have beautiful beaches, and we breed some great surfers. Okeanos plans on giving props to all of the above.
What makes up a New York Surfer? Whether you’re:
Taking the A train to Rockaway…
Hopping the LIRR to LB…
Climbing the dunes to get to Hemlocks...
Fighting the bridge traffic to RoMo…
Or taking the voyage to Turtle/Ditch…
You, my friend, personify a NY Surfer!
